Bangor City Club president Gwyn Pierce Owen celebrated his 80th birthday today and to mark the occasion the club announced that the main stand is being renamed to the 'Gwyn Pierce Owen Stand'.

Gwyn unveiled a new plaque at the back of the stand after Good Friday's game against The New Saints.

Before this, club officials paid tribute to Gwyn at a reception in the Farrar Suite. Club secretary Gwynfor Jones led the tributes, talking about Gwyn's early career as a referee and his involvement with Bangor City.

The President of the Football Association of Wales, Trefor Lloyd Hughes, also paid his own tributes, telling how he himself had only ever received a single booking whilst playing football - and yes it was GPO who produced the card!

Gwyn was then presented with a painting of himself that had been created by City fan Pete Jones. Another presentation of a signed and framed City shirt was then made. Video messages from former manager Nigel Adkins and from Gwyn's grandsons were then shown before Gwyn unveiled the plaque.
