Welsh Cup Round 4 Round-Up

FAW Welsh Cup Round 4

Carmarthen Town 3-2 Bala Town (AET)
An Extra-Time winner from Craig Hughes sent Carmarthen Town into the last eight. A Tony Davies own-goal from a scrappy corner gave the Old Gold the lead on 42 minutes at Richmond Park. In the 88th minute Mark Jones equalised for Bala Town from long range, but just two minutes later Thomas extended the Old Gold's advantage once again. There was more late drama as Steve Brown equalised once again for the Lakesiders in the third-minute of injury time to send the match to Extra-Time.

Mark Aizlewood's side took the lead for the third time ten minutes into extra-time with striker Hughes scoring and that was enough to send the 2007 Champions through, despite Jon Hood's late red card for a second caution.

Bangor City marched on to the last eight infront of the live television cameras at the Deeside Stadium. On a drenched surface, it was the visitors who took the lead in the 34th minute, as Nomads' Danny Dobbins scored in the wrong end from Damien Allen's dangerous cross. After the break, the Nomads were close to equalising, but Liam Brownhill made a last-gasp tackle before Jamie Petrie could get his shot away.

The Citizens doubled the lead in the 70th minute as sub Gary O'Toole scored with his second touch for the club on his debut, ironically against his former club. The striker was quickest to react after Ryan Edwards' shot hit the bar and afterhis first effort was kept out by John Rushton, the forward who had been on the field for 30 seconds touched the ball in with his head.

In the 76th minute Bangor skipper Jamie Brewerton was sent-off by referee Richard Harrington for a second bookable offence for a deliberate handball, but it had no effect on the final score.

Chepstow Town 3-4 Haverfordwest County
Haverfordwest County became the first club to book their place in the FAW Welsh Cup Quarter-Final with a 4-3 win in an enthralling match in Gwent.

The opening goal of Welsh Cup Saturday was scored after 15 minutes by County's teenage striker Ben Steele and the lead was doubled just five minutes later when Tony Shier scored an own-goal. It remained 2-0 until half-time in East Gwent.

After the break, County made it 3-0 with Anthony Owens netting on 70 minutes, but the minnows got themselves back in the game just one minute later as Jason Thorne struck. But their job was made harder on 75 minutes as Andrew Wenzel was sent-off, before County's Chris O'Sullivan scored an own-goal to make it 3-2 in an extraordinary five minute spell.

County's Steffan Williams made it 4-2 with ten minutes remaining, before Thorne netted his brace to keep the game alive five minutes later. But there were to be no further goals and the Pembrokeshire-outfit will be delighted to reach the last eight.

Barry Town 2-1 Pontardawe Town
Barry Town came from behind to book their place in the last eight of the Welsh Cup. The visitors took the lead at Jenner Park with an excellent strike from 19 year old youth-team product Josh Dorward. Barry's left-back Lee Bullock restored parity on 37 minutes with a long-range effort and the hosts then took the lead through Ryan Jenkins, who capitalised on a defensive mix-up in the Pontardawe box. In the second-half Pontardawe had a great chance to level and were awarded a penalty, which was skied over the bar and that proved to be their best chance.

Prestatyn Town 2-0 West End
Town ended West End's Cup dreams despite no goals being scored in the first-half at Bastion Road. Leading scorer Andy Parkinson broke the deadlock with 69 minutes played and player/manager Neil Gibson second four minutes from time.
