Friday Victories for Bangor and Nomads

Chris Simm Set Bangor on the Road to Victory

Two goals in a six minute period early in the second half moved Bangor to the top of the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League overnight.

Chris Simm struck his thirteenth WPL goal of the season two minutes after the break but the loudest cheer of the evening followed six minutes later when captain James Brewerton put his side firmly in the driving seat in front of the 675 paying fans.

Neville Powell's men regain top spot overnight and will be watching S4/C's live game between Carmarthen Town and league leaders Prestatyn with great interest on Saturday.

Following their 6-1 demolition of Llanelli at Stebonheath on Sunday, the Nomads had to come from behind to beat Newtown at the Deeside Stadium.

Luke Boundford had put the visitors ahead after only 7 minutes before Rob Jones finished a classy passing movement to square things up 5 minutes after the break.

Scouts from Cardiff City, West Bromwich Albion, Tranmere and Leeds, like the rest of the crowd were drenched in the pounding rain. They had probably come to keep an eye on Rhys Healey - but another local product Ryan Edwards deservedly won the Man of the Match award for another assured performance in difficult conditions.

However Healey did leave the scouts purring with a classy turn and shot which resulted in the winning goal on the hour mark - his fourth goal in six days and Gap's sixth league point in six days.
