Four on Young Player of the Season Shortlist

Hall, Wall, Holland and Rittenberg in the running for award

Four players have been shortlisted for the WPL Young Player of the Season Award for 2017/18.

Matthew Hall, Dean Rittenberg and Luke Wall of Bangor City, and Tom Holland of The New Saints all had great seasons for their respective sides, and find themselves in the running for the award thanks to the votes cast by managers from each of the twelve clubs in the league.

The winners will be announced at the JD Welsh Premier League Awards 2017/18, which take place on Saturday 2 June at the Cliff Hotel in Gwbert.

Managers have also shortlisted the picks for Player of the Season and Team of the Season. The shortlist for Player of the Season will be announced later this week, with Team of the Season being announced on the 2nd.

Matthew Hall, Bangor City - Winning a place in the City starting XI towards the end of October, Hall quickly established the position as his own, keeping ten clean sheets in amongst a series of impressive performances that helped his side to second in the table.

Tom Holland, The New Saints - An almost ever present in his first season at Park Hall, Holland has quickly formed a partnership with Ryan Brobbel and Aeron Edwards in the heart of the Saints side that secured another League and League Cup double.

Dean Rittenberg, Bangor City - Top scorer for City, Rittenberg's eleven goals also saw him finish joint fourth in the WPL scoring charts. The striker also finished top of the scoring charts in the Nathaniel MG Cup, which was sealed through notching a four goal haul at home to Denbigh Town in Round 2.

Luke Wall, Bangor City - Wall featured in every league game for City, scoring five and providing four assists from the wing, whilst also turning in a MotM performance in the Welsh Cup against Penydarren, in which he scored an impressive hat-trick.

Player and Manager of the Season shortlists will be announced later in the week, with all winners revealed at the JD Welsh Premier League Awards 2017/18 on Saturday 2 June.
