The 18-year-old Norwich-born defender Tom Matthews was a youth with his hometown club before joining Queens Park Rangers as a scholar in 2014.
Matthews went on to captain the Under-18s at Loftus Road before playing for the Under-21s and was rated by the Guardian newspaper in October 2014 as one of the 20 most promising scholars at Premier League clubs.
After his release from the London outfit he signed for The New Saints in May 2016 but has yet to make a competitive appearance for the Saints, although he was named in their Champions League squad.
Matthews is the second signing for Thomas this week following the capture of winger Jamie Menagh from National League North outfit Altrincham.
The Liverpool-born 22-year-old is a midfielder who can play centrally or out wide and is also a dead ball specialist.
Menagh has also played for Prescot Cables, Chester, Marine, Witton Albion, Stockport Counnty and Blackpool
