Robins and Druids pick up big wins

Newtown put four past Carmarthen and Cefn Druids win impressively away at Rhyl in Saturday afternoon Dafabet WPL matches.

Newtown AFC 4-2 Carmarthen Town

Jason Oswell (20, 29), Neil Mitchell (39), Ryan Kershaw (67)
Dwaine Bailey (25), Mark Jones (79)

A clinical attacking display proved too hot to handle for the Old Gold at Latham Park this afternoon as the Robins moved to the top of the Dafabet Welsh Premier League.

A Jason Oswell double in the space of a minute handed the Robins a comfortable lead before Dwaine Bailey pulled one back for the visitors. Neil Mitchell fired home with ease to give the Robins the half time lead, which was increased when debutant Ryan Kershaw found the net on the half hour mark.

Mark Jones found space to head home with 15 minutes left, leaving Newtown to defend resolutely late on, but they held out to go top of the pile.

Rhyl FC 0-3 Cefn Druids

Aaron Bowen (19), Jordan Barrow (84), Liam Eden (90+3)

First goals for the club from Aaron Bowen, Jordan Barrow and Liam Eden got Cefn Druids off the mark as they secured victory over 10 man Rhyl at the Corbett Sports Stadium.

Bowen opening the scoring near the middle of the first half before Barrow and Eden added late on to give The Ancients their first win of the season.
