With the Championship side looking to secure a good development opportunity for the talented youngster Rhyl’s Manager, Niall McGuinness, has moved to secure his services on loan and he is delighted that the 19 year old has agreed to join the Lilywhites, especially as there were a number of other Dafabet Welsh Premier League and Conference North Clubs targeting the keeper.
Owen played at Hereford initially before making his move to full time club Wigan Athletic in 2014. Since then he has played for the Welsh U19s squad in international games with Owen making his debut for Wales Under 19’s in a 3-1 win away to Montenegro in September 2014. Last season Owen played for the Development Squad at the Latics.
McGuinness believes that Owen has the qualities required to succeed and referred to the young 6ft plus keeper as a “great commander who is quick off his line” and importantly stated “his distribution is outstanding and is something that is needed massively in the modern day Goalkeeper.”
McGuinness added “I am delighted to have agreed a deal with Owen and to be able to give him the experience of Senior football that he needs to develop. He’s a good honest lad with the right attitude and a big career ahead of him and I would like to help him progress in the future. I know he will be a big hit at the Corbett Sports Stadium.”
Rhyl FC Managing Director Mike Jones believes the deal is a positive reflection on the credibility of Rhyl Football Club and the Dafabet Welsh Premier League and welcomed the confidence from the management at Wigan Athletic in the ability of the club and Niall as manager to play a part in the development of Owen Evans’ career.
Owen Evans is expected to feature in the Rhyl squad for the Llandudno opener, subject to the club receiving International clearance for his signature.
