PILCS Come From Behind to Claim League Cup

PILCS 3 Abertawe 2

PILCS came from behind to win the second ever Welsh Premier Women’s League Cup by beating Swansea City 3-2 at Port Talbot’s GenQuip Stadium on Friday evening.

Watched by National Team Manager Jayne Ludlow, Swansea had the lion’s share of the early possession but in the 20th minute left back Amanda John denied PILCS from benefiting from their first meaningful attack as she cleared bravely off the line.

The Swans reacted well to that genuine scare and took the lead from the very last move of the opening period as Carrie Slack headed powerfully home from six yards.

The second period however belonged well and truly to PILCS.

5 minutes after the restart, Amy Thrupp went tumbling in the Swansea area but referee Charlotte Carpenter confidently ignored PILCS’s claims for a penalty.

The Gwent outfit did claw themselves level after 67 minutes as Kate Jeremiah’s looping shot floated over Ffion Ashman before nestling in the corner of the Swansea keeper’s net.

PILCS pounced twice again in the following 7 minutes as Amy Thrupp (73) and Lyndsey Davies (75) took full advantage of their respective chances to all but seal the victory for Wayne Jeremiah’s girls.

Katy Hosford’s well placed header halved the deficit with 10 minutes left but PILCS held on to claim their first ever major trophy.

Enillodd PILCS Gwpan Uwch Gynghrair Merched Cymru nos Wener drwy guro Abertawe o 3-2 yn Stadiwm GenQuip Port Talbot diolch i berfformiad ail hanner penigamp.

‘Roedd Rheolwraig Cymru Jayne Ludlow yn gwylio’n fanwl ac fe welodd hi Abertawe’n rheoli’r meddiant i raddau helaeth yn gynnar - ond wedi 20 munud o chwarae PILCS ddaeth agosaf at sgorio ond llwyddodd Amanda John i glirio’r bêl oddi-ar y llinell.

Gyda symudiad olaf un yr hanner cyntaf llwyddodd yr Elyrch i fynd ar y blaen diolch i beniad pwerus a chywir Carrie Slack o chwe llath.

Wedi pum munud o’r ail gyfnod gwaeddodd PILCS yn groch am gic o’r smotyn pan syrthiodd Amy Thrupp i’r llawr – ond dim trosedd oedd penderfyniad hyderus y ddyfarnwraig Charlotte Carpenter.

Serch hynny daeth merched Gwent yn gyfartal gyda 23 munud ar ôl pan dwyllwyd Ffion Ashman yn y gôl i Abertawe gan ergyd Kate Jeremiah o gornel y cwrt cosbi. Fe sgorion nhw ddwy gôl arall yn y 7 munud wedi hynny wrth i Amy Thrupp a Lyndsey Davies rwydo’n hyderus.

Er i Katy Hosford daro’n ôl i Abertawe gyda 10 munud ar ôl – llwyddodd PILCS i ddal gafael ar eu mantais tan y chwiban olaf i hawlio y prif dlws cyntaf yn eu hanes.
