#JDWPL Tuesday Roundup | Robins rally to Met comeback

The long-awaited rearranged fixture between Newtown AFC and Cardiff Metropolitan took place this evening at Latham Park. There were plenty of goals and lots of excitement for JDWPL fans. Read on to find out more.

Newtown AFC 3-2 Cardiff Metropolitan
Latham Park
Newtown AFC Scorers: Neil Mitchell 54’, Jamie Reed 60’ Kieran Mills-Evans 79’
Cardiff Met Scorers: Dylan Rees 22’, Jordan Lam 23’

The Students lead 2-0 in terms of match victories in fixtures between these two sides this season, overcoming The Robins at Cyncoed twice in The JDWPL and The Nathaniel MG Cup already this term, and Christian Edwards’ side actually led 2-0 on the night at Latham Park in this fixture after Dylan Rees and Jordan Lam scored two goals in the space of a minute midway through the first half, putting Met in a commanding position.

After going behind to a two-goal deficit thanks to The Students’ barnstorming start, The Robins had nothing to lose and threw the kitchen sink at their opponents in a bid to get back into the game, however in the first half – at least – Chris Hughes’ side couldn’t get onto the scoresheet despite their significant efforts.

After the break, though, The Robins made their mark, as Neil Mitchell prodded home Ryan Kershaw’s cross to half the deficit, before Jamie Reed buried a penalty after an hour to level the scores. The final half hour made for very interesting viewing, with The Robins soaring with confidence and The Archers trying to clip their wings, but it was Kieran Mills-Evans who made the decisive difference with ten minutes left as he made it 3-2, which Newtown saw out until the fulltime whistle blew.
