#JDWPL MD4 Preview

After a rollercoaster international break, and two strong showings from JD Welsh Premier League sides in The Irn Bru Scottish Challenge Cup, domestic action is back and there is a very special debut in the pipeline as Sgorio are set to broadcast their first league fixture of the season via their official Facebook page. Read on to find out what’s in store for your side this weekend!

Llandudno FC v Prestatyn Town | Thursday, September 7th 2017 (19:45 KO Live on Facebook)

After making history in Matchday 3 by showing live JDWPL football on a Friday night for the first time, S4C, Sgorio and the JD Welsh Premier League will again make history on Thursday with the first match from the league to be solely streamed online.
Llandudno v Prestatyn Town is the game in question, and both sides are looking forward to the experience at the Giant Hospitality Stadium:

‘We’re really excited to be involved with the innovative idea of showing games live on Facebook.’ Prestatyn Town’s Neil Gibson said. ’It's another excellent opportunity for our young squad to showcase their abilities, in what will undoubtedly be a tough test against a Llandudno team that's top of the league, and it's one the lads are really looking forward to.’

‘It’s great to be one of the first teams trialling the new Thursday night project and it’s especially nice to be doing it at home at The Giant Hospitality Stadium, it adds to what is already a great occasion with us hosting Prestatyn again in the JD Welsh Premier League a decade on from the last time we met back in the Cymru Alliance.’ Alan Morgan remarked, echoing Gibson’s statements. ’Let’s hope now that everything pays off and we get a great crowd and provide a great spectacle for everybody watching across all the platforms.’

It promises to be a great fixture between the table-topping home side Llandudno and Gibson’s visitors, who have been very competitive in their start to the new JDWPL season. Make sure you don’t miss it as your JD Welsh Premier League makes history once more.

Connah’s Quay Nomads v Bala Town | Friday, September 8th 2017 (19:45 KO)

Andy Morrison’s Nomads acquitted themselves very well in Scotland last weekend as they faced Dumbarton in The Irn Bru Cup. Whilst defeat was the eventual outcome, to take a Scottish Championship time to extra time and lose out only with practically the last kick of the game after going down to ten men, the red card was obviously regrettable but it was a very encouraging performance from Connah’s Quay nonetheless.

This weekend they go back into JDWPL action against Colin Caton’s Lakesiders; two teams here who regularly contest very tight affairs, full of little tactical battles where the slightest of mistakes can cost either side the game, such is how well organised and drilled these two teams are.

Two of five teams who find themselves on six points at the start of the season, many expect that The Nomads and The Lakesiders will be up there contesting to the top two or three positions in the league come April, so an early opportunity here for one of the teams to get a bit of a lead on the other will no doubt be highly coveted. Get over to Deeside on Friday night and check this one out!

The New Saints v Cefn Druids | Friday, September 8th 2017 (19:45 KO)

In the words of The New Saints’ own management staff last term, it was Huw Griffiths’ Ancients who gave The JDWPL Champions some of their toughest challenges throughout the season, and with the visiting side having secured their first league victory two weeks ago against Aberystwyth Town, Druids can really look to crack on now and build further for the season ahead.

Alec Mudimu, someone Griffiths has had an eye on for a long time, has finally signed on the dotted line for Druids recently and he is expected to be a huge addition in midfield for The Ancients as the 22-year-old is a tall, mobile, skilful presence in the centre of the park who is equally good with both feet, but whether he has the match fitness to get into Druids’ side on Friday remains to be seen.

A shootout victory for TNS against Livingston sees them continue to build on the momentum they’ve created since putting the opening night defeat to Bangor City behind them, and they’ll want to continue that on Friday evening but will know that Cefn Druid won’t make it easy for them, at all. Make sure you don’t miss it.

Aberystwyth Town v Cardiff Metropolitan | Saturday, September 9th 2017 (14:30 KO)

Whilst The Seasiders have only secured one point from their first three games and that doesn’t bode well for Neville Powell’s men, it has to be taken into account that the legendary JDWPL manager has had hardly any time on the training pitch with his squad yet, compared to his counterparts in the league anyway.

Welcoming Cardiff Metropolitan to Park Avenue on Saturday will be Aberystwyth’s toughest test of the season to date, as The Students have really shown their mettle so far this season. A defeat to Bala Town before the international break is the only blot on their copybook, but you’ll find very few teams coming away from Maes Tegid this season with anything to show for it the way The Lakesiders perform on home turf in the league.

The exceptionally competitive nature of the league and this being the early stages of the season mean that Aber are still obviously well in touch with the rest of the teams in the bottom half, but they need to start picking up points soon as the games start coming up thick and fast. How many will they take from Saturday’s fixture? Get down there to find out!

Bangor City v Carmarthen Town AFC | Saturday, September 9th 2017 (14:30 KO)

Another team on six points, Bangor City have had a strong start to the new JDWPL season with victories over TNS and Prestatyn at home and a narrow loss away to Cardiff Met to show for their endeavours.

Carmarthen Town, on the other hand, have no points on the board thus far after three away trips thus far have all resulted in defeats, with a number of other away trips to come before they can finally return to Richmond Park and do battle on their new 3G pitch.

The Old Gold secured two victories over The Citizens away from home last term, as part of their superb record on the road in The JD Welsh Premier League, and they’ll need to start picking up some points sooner or later so who would bet against them doing it on Saturday? Get down to The Bangor University Stadium to see how this game pans out.

Barry Town United v Newtown AFC | Saturday, September 9th 2017 (14:30 KO)

Gavin Chesterfield’s men have settled into JDWPL life quite nicely, we think it is fair to say. Ok, they may not have the points to show for it yet, but still, fine margins are all that have prevented the Jenner Park outfit from boasting a much more bloated points total thus far.

A draw on the opening day at home to Aberystwyth Town has been followed by a defeat secured in the 94th minute against Neil Gibson’s Prestatyn Town up in North Wales as well as a narrow loss to The New Saints at Jenner Park two weeks ago.

As for The Robins, they find themselves in the same position they finished last season, occupying seventh position, but Chris Hughes’ side are starting to find some real momentum now after victory over Bala Town in The Nathaniel MG Cup followed on from the thumping of Carmarthen Town at Latham Park and the draw against Druids, putting that loss on the opening night against The Lakesiders firmly in the rear-view mirror.

Barry will be very eager to get their first win on the board, and being at home will be a real confidence boost, however it will be a real challenge against Newtown on Saturday so make sure you don’t miss it!
