Bala Town 1-1 Aberystwyth Town
Bala Town Scorer: Nathan Burke 28’
Aberystwyth Town Scorer: Jonny Spittle 45+5’
A lively fixture was expected between two sides who, for one reason or another, have struggled for results in recent weeks, and that is exactly what we were treated to in Gwynedd on Friday night.
Nathan Burke got the action underway after seven minutes when his shot fizzed wide of Chris Mullock’s goal in the first notable effort of the game for the home side. The Lakesiders had an effort cleared off the line inside ten minutes too, signalling a very positive start to the game for Bala, but it was competitive all-round and a very high tempo start to the match.
It was Burke who opened the scoring midway through the first half, too, as Mullock could only parry a venomous shot into the midfielder’s path and he put The Lakesiders one goal ahead after 28 minutes. There was a lengthy break in play after a clash of heads, before Jonny Spittle used his head right at the end of the first half to nod the ball into the back of Bala’s net and equalise with practically the last move of the half.
The home side started to take control in the second half and, as ever, had plenty of chances to put the game to bed or at least retake the lead, but they couldn’t convert. Les Davies, Mike Hayes, Jordan Evans, they all had chances go begging, but Ashley Morris was a busy goalkeeper at the other end too as Aber forced two great saves out of the stopper to prevent the visitors taking the lead.
Despite plenty of chances to win the game though, neither side was able to get anything over the line, but at least at 1-1 both teams were able to get back to picking up points!
