Mike Burns scored the winner
MICHAEL BURNS was the Gap Connah’s Quay hero as his late winner in a 2-1 victory at Flintshire rivals Airbus helped Nomads climb out of the Welsh Premier League relegation places.
Andy Preece’s title chasing Wingmakers saw their dreams of pipping The New Saints to top spot all but vanish with defeat to Nomads.
The game started in promising fashion for Preece’s side with Russell Courtney’s 30th minute own goal handing them a 1-0 half time advantage.
But Nomads are fighting for their lives and within 10 minutes of the restart they were back on level terms as midfielder James Owen put through his own net.
Nomads continued to press for what player/boss Mark McGregor knew would be three vital points and they winner duly arrived through midfielder Burns.
The visiting side were able to prevent Airbus from getting anything out of the contest in the remaining minutes to climb above Prestatyn, who now sit in the bottom two.
Airbus remain three points behind TNS, but the reigning champions have two games in-hand.
