Red Rose blooms at Park Avenue

Aberystwyth Town succumbed to ten man Llanelli this evening at Park Avenue, as two clinical finishes from Martin Rose earned the beleaguered Reds a battling victory.

The visitors, fielding a much stronger eleven than had been predicted started well, and Geoff Kellaway’s header was well saved by James Wood in goal for Aber. The hosts then rallied, and Stuart Jones’s close range shot was deflected just over the bar. Soon afterwards Glyndwr Hughes had a header cleared off the line, and Craig Morris in goal twice palmed Jordan Follows shots away. Things seemed to be going Aber’s way when Mamadou Diallo was then shown a straight red card for a lunge on Follows, but in the event the visitors took the lead 5 minutes before the break, as Rose pounced on a weak back header to fire home.

Llanelli were more than happy to sit back and defend their lead in the second half, and defend it they did. Aber enjoyed the majority of possession but couldn’t quite find the final touch. Morris punched away a brilliant header from Hughes, produced by a cross from Cledan Davies, and substitute Declan Carroll’s trickery created a half chance that went just wide, but then with four minutes remaining Llanelli broke down the right, and Rose produced a classy right footed finish to complete the victory.
