THIS match in front of the TV cameras was very slow to come to the boil but once it did after the break, there was plenty of excitement and five goals in a 15-minute spell.
No-one would have grumbled if both sides had taken a point from what turned out to be an attractive encounter and Carmarthen can count themselves unlucky not to have sneaked an equaliser.
It was the hosts who actually took the lead on 62 minutes with a well taken goal, but the advantage didnt last long as Aber drew level just two minutes later through livewire Steff Edwards.
But the real drama came a little later when the visitors grabbed two goals in two minutes to kill off their opponents hopes. First Ryan Marriott headed home to edge Aber in front and then the much travelled Ricky Evans added the third a minute later. Carmarthen did not give up the fight, though, with Gary Bansor coming on for Bevan and Darren Griffiths for Nick Harrhy.
Both of them showed how important fresh legs were at that stage. But despite the extra energy, neither was able to penetrate the tough visitors defence.
With 12 minutes remaining Carmarthen were given hope as Craig Frater, who had looked impressive throughout, blasted home to reduce the deficit to just one goal.
Aber defended resolutely after that, but Carmarthen continued to push downfield only to be thwarted time and again. Aberystwyth have threatened to deliver for some seasons, now. And perhaps this could be the campaign where they finally shine
