A well taken strike from young substitute Jamie Horwood five minutes from time gave Town a deserved three points after it looked as if Druids would survive considerable pressure to grind out a share of the spoils. Having replaced Sasha Walters just after the hour Horwood's first touch split the defence and having rounded the keeper he held his composure to net from an acute angle.
Town started brightly with most of the early game played in the Druids half. Craig Hughes' persistence saw the front man fire into the side netting but Druids had a good chance on 20' when Lee Jones' free kick was headed against the upright by Geraint Lewis from close range.
On the half hour mark Druids somehow survived a triple onslaught when Hughes again persisted only to see his shot parried by McGuigan and with Palmer's follow up also beaten away Walters put the final effort over. Despite considerable dominance Town couldn't quite find the end product and it remained it all square at the break.
Following the resumption Town continued to dominate. Palmer did well on the hour but could not quite connect with Hicks' clever return but with Powell, Barnett and Rowlands influential Druids got vital interceptions and touches to keep Town out. McGuigan got a vital hand to Craig Hughes' shot after Horwood put the ball through and with Cotterrall out stripping the defence down the left Horwood put the last touch wide off Hudgell's ball.
Griffiths blasted over for Druids following a hesitant Town clearance but with Hudgell brought down in the box Town had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock. But McGuigan got his foot to Craig Hughes' spot kick and with Horwood putting the follow-up wide Town's chance passed.
McGuigan was soon in action again to parry Palmer's shot and block out Hudgell's follow up but following a speculative long range effort from Ricky Evan that crashed off the upright Horwood finally sealed the outcome for Town.
