Fixture Type: Welsh Premier League
Referee: Huw Jones
LLANELLI have a habit of slipping up against so-called lesser opposition and history repeated itself at Stebonheath Park yesterday as the Reds let a golden chance to go top of the Welsh Premier slip through their grasp.
It was a frustrating afternoon for Reds fans who watched on agonisingly until veteran Andy Legg spared their blushes with a face-saving equaliser in the second minute of stoppage time. There was plenty of goalmouth incident in the first half but it was Druids who went in a goal up at the break thanks to a solitary strike by Mark Stewart.
Druids wide man Lee Holsgrove set up the goal as he won possession in his own half and did exceptionally well to put over a telling cross that Llanelli could not deal with, and Stewart tucked home the ball as Reds keeper Ashley Morris conceded a rare goal during his loan spell from Merthyr.
Druids have not won at Stebonheath in five years but as injury time approached they must have thought this was going to be their day, with Llanelli forced to throw caution to the wind and send Legg to a far more attacking role. It finally paid dividends for Nicholas and his men as Legg popped over a cross for Wyn Thomas to head into the danger area and Legg arrived to bundle the ball into the net.
Mark Pritchard should have grabbed a winner but had his shot blocked on the line. So relief for Llanelli that they did pick up a point but Nicholas will see this as two points dropped, with the Reds now a point adrift of leaders Rhyl.
