Deryn Brace's Carmarthen failed to extend their record of three consecutive wins over Caernarfon at The Oval, when they finished second best. In a storming finish, Carmarthen might well have salvaged something but they had been exposed regularly during the first hour, when they could so easily have been six goals down.
Caernarfon, struggling to climb clear of the relegation danger zone, scored twice, had two other goal-bound efforts cleared off the line and wasted a couple of glaring openings. Steve O'Shaughnessy's hosts began to put right a bleak sequence of seven appearances without a win, when Paul Addo hit their first goal on nine minutes, slamming a left-angled 20-yarder past 'keeper Mike Poole.
John Rowley delivered the second goal from a similar situation on 36 minutes after latching on to another creation by livewire James Thomas. It was a reply goal from sub Danny Thomas on 75 minutes, following Nathan Cotterall's low cross from the left, that sparked Carmarthen's late revival bid, which led to heavy pressure but nothing else.
