NEWI Cefn Druids returned from Stebonheath Park empty handed, but joint boss Lee Jones took heart from another encouraging display against the League leaders.
A close-range effort from Rhys Griffiths three minutes before half time proved enough to separate the sides, but the Ancients had enough opportunities themselves to have gained some reward. Stuart Vernon had a couple of chances, one in the opening exchanges, Ricky Evans also went close while Jones himself almost rescued a point late on only to be denied by a save from home keeper Ryan Harrison when breaking clear.
"We're disappointed to come away with nothing as we had enough chances in the game," said Jones.
The Druids still need to sharpen up at the other end of the pitch, but have strengthened their striking options by signing former Rhyl and Connah's Quay forward Chris McGinn, who made his debut after coming off the bench in the last half hour. Saturday's victory, their third of the season, took Llanelli top of the table with the predatory Griffiths tapping in from close range on 42 minutes after a Craig Williams cross had been headed into the goalmouth by Craig Jones.
For the most part, however, the encounter was evenly contested, with the Druids underlining their improvement this term.
The game was marred by a nasty, but accidental, clash of heads between Llanelli's new player coach Paul Wamles and the Druids' Timmy Edwards. After treatment, Edwards was able to continue but Wamles was taken to hospital for observation.
