A CLOSE range header from substitute Steve Rogers helped Welshpool Town bounce back from their festive slump to revive hopes of challenging for Europe. Both sides had gone into the encounter on the back of a three-match losing streak, but it was the Lilywhites who took the spoils at Maesydre.
Rogers nodded what proved to be the decisive goal seven minutes into second period after Brett Jefferies had headed a Ross Stephens corner from the right towards goal. 'Pool had taken the lead on 22 minutes when top scorer Chris Venables saw his 35-yard free kick from wide on the left deceive 'keeper Richard Morgan before floating into the net. Aden Shannon also saw a low shot well saved, while at the other end Stuart Roberts put one low effort just wide while seeing another well clutched by 'keeper Ged McGuigan.
But Aber were back on terms on the stroke of the interval when on loan striker Jamie Reed, playing his last game in Aber colours before returning to Wrexham, nipped in to score from a tight angle after Pool had failed to deal with a long throw. After Rogers had restored Pool's advantage in the second period, Aber battled to get back with captain Reed turning one effort narrowly wide from Luke Sherbon's cross.
But Pool held firm, although victory was tainted two minutes from time when Brett Jefferies was sent off for his second caution as he tussled with Reed for the ball.
