Player/Boss Owen is spot on for Wingmakers

Aberystwyth Town Manager Brian Coyne handed debuts to new signings David Jones in goal, Lloyd Grist at left back and former Newtown captain Gareth Hughes in midfield, whilst Danny Desormeaux and Paul Hallows made their first competitive starts for the renamed Airbus UK Broughton.

The Visitors started brightly but it was the home side, Airbus who almost took the lead when Player/Manager Gareth Owen forced a save from Jones. The Seasiders continued to exert pressure and long-serving defender, Aneurin Thomas grabbed the opener on 34 minutes, with a tremendous, powerful freekick just outside the box.

It looked as though Coyne's side would take all three points when the hosts' striker, James McIntosh was dismissed for a second Yellow card, but on 65 minutes Owen's side equalised when the Wingmakers cleverly beat the offside trap only for visiting 'keeper Jones to bring down the last man in the box and JB Roberts, the Match Referee, had no hesitation in showing the red card for Jones on his debut. Striker Glyndwyr Hughes went in goal for Aber, but he could do nothing to prevent Owen from striking the penalty home for a 1-1 draw.
