A hard fought victory was just rewards for Mark Jones' Carmarthen after they made the long journey north to NEWI Cefn Druids on Bank Holiday Sunday. Their 1-2 victory at Plaskynaston would have made the journey home sweeter though as the Old Golds are sitting pretty at the top of the Principality Welsh Premier, albeit top, but still level with Champions The New Saints.
It was a fighting display by the home side, who bounced back from their 6-0 annihaltion to Bangor and 3-0 defeat to TNS last week. However, it was the change by the tactically astute Jones, which proved the turning point as the livewire Sacha Walters turned the game following his introduction.
The quick and skilful frontman made an immediate impact, as his excellent skills conjured up a chance for Nathan Cotterrall, who slotted home from close range. Cotterrall then doubled the lead on 79 minutes as his mazy run from the left wing ended with his strike across the keeper and into the back of the net.
Druids hit back , but Carl Lamb's first goal for the club was mere consolation.
