Connah's Quay Nomads moved up to fourth in the League and put their Welsh Cup misery behind them with a 1-0 win at Latham Park. It was defender Chris Williams who was the hero by netting twelve minutes from time to earn the maximum points for the Nomads. Williams has now scored five this term, but this effort could well prove to be the most important to date as the victory keeps the Deesiders within grasp of Welshpool and Rhyl.
In a fast and often furious affair, defences generally remained in control, but the Robins continually tested the stout visitors' rearguard, but it was an assist from skipper Marc Limbert's, which found the knee of Williams and the ball found the net in a cruel twist of fate.
There was some disappointment for the Nomads though as star striker Adam Dickenson was sent off with five minutes to go for a second bookable offence, meaning that he will miss their crucial visit to Welshpool on the weekend.
Darren Ryan handed a debut to new signing Richard French, who joined from Port Talbot Town and he partnered Marcus Sharrad up front as Jon Kift was unavailable. For the Nomads, Nev Powell resisted the temptation to start with striker Chris Melia as Tommy Mutton continued with Adam Dickenson up front. He did change things around though following the Cup defeat against Llanelli as Dave Swanick and Christian Sergeant were left out in favour of Danny Jellicoe and Craig Hutchinson respectively.
